Walt Disney World antenna toppers

There’s nothing that says “I just got back from Disney World” like a Walt Disney World antenna topper, which might explain why so many Orlando residents have one perched atop their own automobiles. Local residents and visitors alike can find an antenna topper to suit every personality and time of year, from pirates to princesses, Christmas to the Fourth of July, or even miniature sized mouse ears that are best suited as key chains.

The Mickey Mouse ears used to be the distinguishing characteristic for these iconic souvenirs, although in recent years Disney has had more of an “anything goes” attitude—as long as it is family friendly—towards the shape of the antenna topper. Just about every gift shop at Walt Disney World sells antenna toppers, but the selection changes park by park and season by season. The biggest selection of toppers can be found at the World of Disney gift shop in Downtown Disney. With a price less than $10, consider getting more than one antenna topper if you won’t be back to Disney for a while—and always remember to remove your WDW souvenir before going through a car wash!

Disney’s PhotoPass

For Disney visitors who may have forgotten their camera at the hotel—or didn’t feel like bringing an expensive camera to a theme park or waterpark—Disney’s PhotoPass is one way for guests to keep a record of their best Walt Disney World photo ops on an easy-to-carry card attached to a wristband. Each card contains a bar code that will access your photos at a Disney PhotoPass center in one of the theme parks or online at home by entering the Disney PhotoPass ID on the back of the card. And while you can get a separate card for each photo taken, multiple photos can be accessed with the same bar code.

Photo prints and frames can be purchased at the parks, but if you want to avoid the end-of-the-day lines and want to use a little creativity with your photos, visit Disneyphotopass.com to choose from a variety of photo-related products. Turn your Disney memories into Christmas ornaments, calendars, mugs, mouse pads, photo books, magnets, and much more. Registered users can also incorporate their own uploaded photos into Disney designs, or choose from a variety of professional photographs from the Disney parks. Keep in mind that any photos taken at Walt Disney World will “expire” online 30 days after being uploaded, thus ensuring that users are motivated to purchase these photos before it’s too late!

Hotels With Meeting Rooms Near Orlando Airport

As we are all aware by now, 2009 and 2010 were very challenging times for corporate travel and meetings in Orlando. Many large conventions were postponed, relocated or cancelled in the past two years due to budget cuts and lack of participation that were there in years past. Corporate travel and meeting planners have also been affected for they are now charged with doing more with less. Their responsibility is to assist the corporate executives in the planning to allow them to build relationships and expand their company’s market shares. According to Visit Florida, “Many organizations are harnessing the power of face-to-face meetings in Orlando to get back on track and focus on future success.” “Why?” “Meetings in Orlando are more productive. It's where partnerships are forged. Ideas are generated. And deals are closed.”

The Wingate by Wyndham Orlando Airport has noticed the need to be more flexible with meeting room rates and food and beverage requirements during this economic downturn. This beautiful 3 star hotel, located 1 mile from the Orlando International Airport, offers 3 meeting rooms to accommodate a variety of group needs.

The hotel offers an Executive Boardroom to accommodate up to 10 people, the Sanford Room which will accommodate up to 40 people and the Orlando Room which will accommodate up to 70 people. With the variety of meeting space the Wingate by Wyndham Orlando Airport will also rent out 2 Room Suites and the Dining Area for banquet events.

The hotel offers a wide array of audio visual equipment as well as food and beverage options. When you are planning your next event in Orlando and looking for a location that is close to the Orlando Airport for convenience of out of town guests and in walking distance to several quality restaurants, great service, flexible meeting room rates and food and beverage requirements, please reach out to the Wingate by Wyndham Orlando Airport hotel for it is sure to fit your needs and make your meeting or event productive all at the same time.

Disney Dream prepares for maiden voyage

It’s a dream come true for travelers looking for a family friendly vacation on the high seas. The newest ship of Disney Cruise Line, Disney Dream, embarks on her maiden voyage on January 26 out of Port Canaveral, just a 45 minute drive from the Orlando International Airport. Disney Dream boasts some features that have never been found on any cruise ship.

Like the other Disney Cruise Line ships, Disney Magic and Disney Wonder, Disney Dream was designed in the classic style of the golden age of cruising, in the early 20th Century, with the added bonus of state-of-the-art cruising technology and modern convenience. The ship has interactive floors in the children's clubs, which allow kids to play and interact with the games and activities there. And perhaps the splashiest new feature is the AquaDuck – the very first water coaster at sea, which allows Guests to swoosh up, down, around, over the edge of the ship, and back before making a splash landing.

Disney Dream will bring guests to the island of Nassau in The Bahamas, and to Disney's own private island, Castaway Cay. On shore, Guests can choose from Port Adventures like stingray interactions, glass-bottom boat tours, parasailing, fishing, jet-ski tours and offshore snorkeling.

For anyone who is considering a winter getaway on the warm Caribbean waters, more information is available at the Disney Cruise website.

How do I find out who owns a property in Orlando?

Unlike many other cities where single family homes are strictly for permanent residents, Orlando has a number of properties that are used by snowbirds or as vacation homes. In fact there are entire subdivisions dedicated to vacation homes and timeshare condo units.

To find out who owns a property in Orlando, visit the Orange County Property Appraiser’s website at www.ocpafl.org. Keep in mind that Orlando homes are in Orange County, but homes in nearby Kissimmee, Florida (another popular location for vacation properties) are located in nearby Osceola County.

Users on the Orange County website can look up “Property Searches,” followed by “Record Search.” Not all of the information fields have to be filled out to look up a property, but it is helpful to know at least one or more of the following pieces of information: Owner Name, Property Address, Parcel ID, Property Name, Subdivision/Condo/Timeshare Name, or Condo/Timeshare Unit #. Interested parties can even look up properties using the Property Use Search, Vacant Land Search or Foreclosure Search.

Many of the Orlando area’s vacation homes were built within the last decade, so anyone who is looking for a property in Orlando will find plenty of modern amenities in addition to the three things that make Florida real estate so attractive: location, location, location.

Disney Dreamers Academy

Walt Disney World Resort, in collaboration with nationally syndicated radio personality Steve Harvey and Essence Magazine, the leading communications company dedicated to African-American women, has announced the selection of 100 high school students from across the country to participate in Disney’s Dreamers Academy class of 2011.

Dreamers will travel to Walt Disney World Resort in March 2011 to participate in immersive workshops focusing on a variety of subjects including Walt Disney Imagineering techniques, entertainment, entrepreneurship and culinary arts. Disney experts, world-renowned entrepreneurs and celebrities will share their blueprints for success, upholding the program’s mission to motivate, empower and inspire young adults.

Tracey Walters-Powell, executive champion of the program for Disney Parks & Resorts, said, “Disney’s Dreamers Academy is a perfect platform to further the goal, shared by Disney Parks, Essence Communications and – it goes without saying – by Steve Harvey, to inspire children. We are genuinely excited about the possibilities ahead.”

Walt Disney World Resort and Steve Harvey developed Disney’s Dreamers Academy in an effort to unveil a world of possibilities, inspire teens to dream big and help them to get started on their career paths. Launched in 2007, the program was designed to motivate high school students in grades 9-12 to achieve their dreams personally and professionally. Earlier this fall, parents, teachers, school administrators, church groups and students nominated thousands of aspiring Dreamers for the program. The criteria used to select the Dreamers included exhibiting curiosity, compassion and leadership skills. Selected students, no matter their background, share common traits: the power to BELIEVE and DREAM. The program allows teens the opportunity to learn the process through which to attain their goals.

“Each year we strive to find young people who may have a will or passion, but may not have the courage to explore their dreams.” Harvey said. “So we hope to unlock the power that will allow them to pursue their hearts’ desires. Walt Disney World, Essence Magazine and I are excited to be a part of these young Dreamers’ experience that will encourage them to bring their dreams to life.”

Disney’s Dreamers Academy is dedicated to the complete advancement of youth. The goal is for each participant to leave knowing that no Dream is too far-fetched. These students and their parent or guardian will be given unprecedented access to the enchantment behind Walt Disney World Resort.

Earlier this year Essence Communications joined forces with Disney Parks and Steve Harvey to help take Disney’s Dreamers Academy to the “next level.”

Essence Communications President Michelle Ebanks said, “Essence is closely aligned with Disney and Steve Harvey in supporting the mission of Disney’s Dreamers Academy and its commitment to positively impacting our youth. Disney’s Dreamers Academy is helping teens take steps in the right direction, and we want to be right there with the students, both encouraging them and sharing their stories.”

Participants for the 2011 Disney’s Dreamers Academy class were selected by a distinguished panel of judges including: Steve Harvey; Yolanda Adams (Gospel Music Legend); Angela Burt-Murray (former editor-in-chief, Essence Magazine); Dr. Steve Perry (Education Advocate and CNN commentator); Dalonte Hall (DDA Dreamer, Class of 2010); Terrence J (MTV Personality); Carole Munroe (Director of Media Relations, Disney Parks & Resorts); Tracey Powell (Director of Pricing, Disney Parks & Resorts); Stella Ringer (Marketing Manager, The Coca-Cola Company); Lorraine Robertson (Blogger) and Stephen A. Smith (Broadcaster/Sports Analyst).

Thirteen students from New York, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C., who missed the 2010 program due to inclement weather, have been invited to experience the magic of Disney’s Dreamers Academy along with the 2011 class.

The 2011 Disney’s Dreamers Academy will take place March 3-6, 2011, at Walt Disney World Resort, near Orlando in central Florida. The complete list of the 2011 class is below. For more information, visit www.disneysdreamersacademy.com.

Orlando’s Amway Center

It’s not too late to catch an Orlando Magic NBA game during the team’s first season in the Amway Center. Top 5 Orlando attractions for a chilly day

As hard as it might be for some visitors to believe, yes, there are days when it can get chilly in Orlando, especially during the month of January. While that doesn’t stop most travelers from enjoying a day at the Orlando theme parks (even if they do have to skip the water parks) there are plenty of indoor attractions in Orlando for an unseasonably cool day.

For those who would prefer not to brave cooler temperatures in Orlando (or perhaps you forgot to pack a heavier jacket) here are five suggestions on how to spend the day:

• Outlet mall shopping: Orlando has two major Premium Outlet malls in town. One is on the northernmost end of International Drive, and the on the south end of I-Drive on 8200 Vineland Avenue is another Premium Outlet. Many of the stores are similar between these two malls so let geographic convenience be your guide.
Wonderworks: Located next to the Pointe Orlando shopping, dining and entertainment center, this upside down building is an indoor amusement park with over 100 interactive exhibits, including Orlando’s Only Indoor Ropes Course with 3 stories of ropes and more than 20 different obstacles and activities, plus an XD Theater 4D Extreme Motion Ride.
Titanic the Experience: Also on I-Drive, the world’s largest Titanic exhibit is right here in Orlando. Trained actors in period costume portray famous Titanic notables such as Capt. Smith and Molly Brown, as they share stories of her passengers and crew during an hour-long guided journey aboard the most famous ship in history.
Ripley’s Believe it or Not! Odditorium: Another I-Drive attraction, the Orlando location of Ripley’s Believe it or Not specializes in real-life oddities and amusements. Unlike Wonderworks, this building is right side up, although it appears to be sinking into a Florida sinkhole.
World’s Largest Entertainment McDonald’s and Playplace: Located at the intersection of Sand Lake Road and International Drive—you can’t miss it, it looks like an oversized bag of French fries—this Mickey D’s boasts over 100 state-of-the-art card swipe arcade games, a prize redemption center and a singing Mac Tonight. And you can buy a Big Mac here.

And this is just a sampling of the indoor activities that Orlando has to offer. After all, all of the theme parks have some indoor attractions—if you don’t mind doing a little bit of walking outside.

Emeril’s Tchoup Chop Sunday Brunch

Ready to have your weekend kicked up another notch? Tchoup Chop at Universal Orlando’s CityWalk is offering an amazing three-course Sunday Brunch from 10:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. with $4 eye opener cocktails. This mouthwatering banquet is not your average Sunday brunch—there is no buffet line with greasy sausages and scrambled eggs, just unique flavor combinations in an equally elegant setting.

Open with a choice of Warm Apple and Cream Cheese Strudel, Combination Sushi Rolls (Half Spicy Tuna, Half California Style Roll) or Crispy "Quiche" Eggrolls with Smoked Bacon, Egg and Cheddar Filling, just to name a few. The second course choices include Miso Soup, Roasted Kabocha Squash Bisque with Cinnamon Crème Fraiche, Tchoup Chop Salad with Orange Supremes, Candied Pecans, and Creamy Soy Dressing or Roasted Red & Gold Beet Salad with Fried Goat Cheese. Finally, complete the meal with a third course selection that includes Emeril’s version of Brioche French Toast and Eggs Benedict to even heartier choices such as Emeril’s Red Marble Petite Filet Mignon with Wild Mushroom Pan Gravy or Pan Seared Salmon in a Thai Spiced Noodle Bowl.

If you are spending time in Orlando, don’t miss out on the opportunity to visit one of Emeril Lagasse’s signature restaurants (one of only three restaurants in the state of Florida). For more information, visit the Tchoup Chop website.

Limo from Disney Orlando to SeaWorld

Are you staying on Disney property but want to explore some of the Orlando attractions outside the House of Mouse? USAChauffeur can get you where you want to go in so you can enjoy spending time with Mickey, Minnie and Goofy as well as Shamu, Clyde and Seamore.

Orlando is known for the diversity of its theme park attractions and no two theme parks are exactly alike. Many visitors would like to explore as many of these attractions as possible, but Disney shuttles only travel to other Disney locations, and a one time trip to SeaWorld might not justify the cost of a rental car for the entire trip. If Walt Disney World and SeaWorld are both a part of your travel plans, consider the benefits of a safe, smooth ride in a USAChauffeur limousine.

Location, location, location

With their on-property location convenient to the theme parks, the Disney hotels are a haven for guests who seek a midday swimming break – or a siesta. For some guests, the convenience is even more specific…

Many families with young children select accommodations in one of the “monorail resorts” – Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Polynesian Resort or Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. Reason: location near Magic Kingdom and convenient monorail transportation between the resorts and Magic Kingdom or Epcot.

Many adult couples visiting without children enjoy the proximity to Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios of Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, Disney’s Beach Club Resort and Disney’s BoardWalk – as well as the nightlife of Disney’s BoardWalk. Walkways and water taxis connect the three resorts with the theme parks.
