The 6th best Caribbean vacation destination by Trip Advisor reviews is Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Punta Cana is a city on the very Eastern tip of the Dominican Republic. In case you are looking for Punta Cana on a map, it is the Eastern half of the island that Haiti is on. Isn't it interesting how countries decided to split an island between themselves?

The city of Punta Cana itself has a population of approximately 100,000 people. Europeans, Spanish in particular own most all the major resorts lining the coast of Punta Cana. If you're like me, when you think of the Dominican Republic you probably think of baseball as some of the best major league baseball talent has come from this small Caribbean island nation.

Punta Cana has been one of the best Caribbean vacation destinations since the 70's. There are numerous large resorts lining the beaches and are very luxurious. The climate in Punta Cana is what you'd expect from a Caribbean Island, warm and tropical with an average high temperature of 82 degrees year-round. Being an Eastern coastal city it receives a steady trade wind on the beach to help keep you feeling cool, also some surf much like Cancun. As a side note, you really feel how effective a breeze is at keeping you cooled down while on the beach, if the breeze stops briefly you start to bake and get hot right away. Love those trade winds!

Spanish is the official language, but like most other Caribbean islands, you can get by with english for the most part. The Punta Cana airport has an open thatched roof design, so be ready if you're coming from a cold climate to be thrust out into the sultry, humid Caribbean air, where you will thaw out in no time. Many of the resorts will arrange to pick you up and shuttle you directly to the resort, otherwise taxis are available. Marinarium and dolphin swim tours are available to swim with stingrays and dolphins, which is always a hit.

The Dominican Peso is the local currency with conversion rates around 30 pesos to a U.S. Dollar. Punta Cana is not as famous as some other Caribbean island locations but is well loved by those in-the-know and it rightly deserves to be rated one of the best Caribbean vacation destinations, and some of the best deals there can be found on Book It and you can also Find Last Minute Deals at hotels.com!
